SCADA Systems

Industrial Process Monitoring and Control

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is an intelligent system developed for the control and supervision of industrial processes which enables acquisition and processing of data received from remote locations and automatic transmission / command execution according to the recorded events.

SCADA represents more than a technology, being used by large industrial companies as a customary management tool. The system allows monitoring of process parameters to be measured, thus ensuring control and management of an industrial process.
Experience has shown that the benefits of SCADA implementation in any activities, substantially contribute to increasing production efficiency, being a valid decision-making support.

ADVANTAGES

Operational advantages:
- Remote operation - eliminates the need to tour the production area to check / change the status of equipment.
- Avoidance of critical events - allows the unit to detect alarming conditions before they become critical.
- Troubleshooting - provides historical and real-time reports, thus the operator is able to compare execution times of an industrial process and diagnose problems long before they turn into failures.

Economic advantages:
- Improve product quality by providing active supervision of production activities and helping manufacturers to significantly reduce production defects.
- Reducing utility costs by offering the ability to manage the consumption of energy, water, fuel and other such utilities used in the production process.
- Reducing production costs – SCADA is a real-time inspection system of the plant helping to speed up processing of materials and to reduce production costs.
- Reduction of expenses with staff by eliminating the need for the ongoing presence of personnel in the technological process.

Managerial Advantages:
- Decision support – SCADA allows decision making, analysis of process evolution and the development of medium / long term forecasts.
- Eliminating subjectivity – information is accurate and objective as it is automatically transmitted without being under the influence of human factor.
- Ongoing remote control - if the system is built using web-based technology and benefits from internet connection, information may be available anywhere, using a simple password-based browser on different management levels.
- By using the associated databases, the user can benefit from viewing synoptic maps, history, alarms, recording the details of the configuration changes made (by whom and when).

SCADA SYSTEM COMPONENTS:

Hardware:
Primary measurement equipment
- Local data acquisition and processing equipment;
- Dispatcher type equipment for superior data processing;
- Radio / satellite / wire / or GSM infrastructure to provide data transmission between local stations and central dispatch station.

Software:
- Appropriate software implemented at local and dispatch level;
- Dedicated software platform - AIMAX - WIN (U.S.);
- Multitasking;
- Real time;
- "mosaic" type display which allows the user to view multiple windows on display in relation with the number of monitored parameters and with the beneficiary’s commands and requests.
- Definition of the monitored parameters according to the beneficiary's requests.
Each SCADA system is an intelligent mix of components which are customized to meet the needs of each customer.

SCADA systems can start from relatively simple arrangement, such as the one which monitors an equipment in a factory or extremely complex, such as a monitoring system for the activity of a nuclear base or municipal water system.

The SCADA solution offered by Rokura is very flexible, allowing a project to start with a pilot plant at one station and to extend the system at several stations / locations, as needed.

Rokura engineers offer customers support on the type of necessary scheme and on the economical part of the implementation by offering solutions for a specific budget.

The SCADA solutions offered by Rokura are turnkey solutions, designed to solve specific customer needs.
